Fourth grade teacher Tara Reed and Lisbeth Krauss, Associate Dean for Teacher Education, attended "Day on the Hill" in Washington, D.C. on June 19, 2013, hosted by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. The College of Education represented the University of North Texas this year at the prestigious annual event, and Reed and Krauss were the only regional team from Texas to attend.

The two-day gathering of deans from universities across the nation consisted of conferences, networking and appointments with congressmen to highlight their college's successful initiatives in teacher education and influence change in teacher education legislation. While in Washington, Reed and Krauss had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Burgess and aides of Senator John Cornyn and Senator Ted Cruz.

Each year, UNT's College of Education selects one classroom teacher who has completed a university teacher prep program to attend Day on the Hill. Tara Reed currently teaches at Hawks Elementary School in Denton ISD, one of the college’s partner schools that hosted international student teachers in the spring.
