BESO honored through permanent tribute for Mean Green Unity Award

UNT's Multicultural Center has awarded the 2012-2013 Mean Green Unity Award to the College of Education's Bilingual/ESL Student Organization (BESO).

The Mean Green Unity Award honors a UNT organization with extraordinary dedication towards enhancing the community as a whole. The organization's efforts must encourage the education of the UNT community on issues of diversity. It recognizes exceptional organizations that address diversity issues in a matter that encourages unity and furthers understanding between diverse groups while promoting diversity on campus as well as in the community.

BESO has been active at UNT for the past 8 years. The student members seeking bilingual or ESL teacher certification have been advocating for cross-cultural understanding through bilingual and ESL education at local, state and national conferences. Their focus is on English language learners in grades Pre-K-12 and their families who represent more than 100 countries and languages.

The award will be memorialized with an inscribed paver brick at the Alumni Pavilion, and a special ceremony revealing the brick will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
