$600,000 in Continued Funding for Special Education Projects

This year, three major grants from the U.S. Department of Education will receive continued funding totaling approximately $600,000.   

Associate Professor Dr. Smita Mehta’s project “The Systematic Training for Autism Researchers and Schools” (STARS) will receive $199,962 in additional funding for its third of four years.  Her “Distributed Education Program in Autism Personnel in Rural Texas” training grant will receive $199,966 for its second of four years. New Course: History and Philosophy of the Community College

The course explores the development and the evolution of the community college as an innovation in U.S. higher education, factors that influenced its creation and development, its historical and philosophical roots, and the mission and function of community colleges. See Attachment for more detail.

Graduate Student Travel Assistance

The College of Education supports the scholarly development of our graduate students. As part of this support the COE provides awards for graduate students travel to conferences. Graduate students seeking this support must be enrolled in at least 6 hours of course work in the semester they apply for the funds. Students are limited to one COE Graduate Student Travel award per academic year (September 1 – August 31). Awards will be made until funds are exhausted.
