Message from the Dean and College Highlights - Fall 2014
Dean's Corner
This time of year is a great opportunity to reflect on our amazing achievements and to remember that our strength comes from the support of friends and alumni like you. Thank you for investing in our students and for staying in touch with us throughout the year.
Over the past three years, we’ve received more than $8.5 million in gifts and pledges from alumni and friends. Wow! Our students continue to achieve national recognition and receive awards for their accomplishments. We have had hundreds of articles published by faculty and have received $3 million in external funding of 25 grants last year. We graduated 1182 students last year, and 47 of those earned Ph.D. degrees and 25 earned Ed.D. degrees.
Thanks to you, we’ve been hard at work improving our programs and launching some exciting new initiatives. With your support, we’re expanding our international student teacher exchange program to Costa Rica and England; we’re launching new online master’s level courses in bilingual and ESL education; and have created an accelerated master’s path for our development and family studies undergraduate students, the first program of its kind in the college.
Over 34 countries are represented by our student body of more than 4,000, and again this fall, our college has two of the most popular undergraduate majors on campus: teacher education (interdisciplinary studies) and kinesiology. According to the Texas Education Agency, we are one of the top university producers of teachers in Texas. And our graduate programs continue to grow stronger each year.
Our success is driven by hardworking students, dedicated faculty and staff, support from local public schools and committed alumni and friends like you. We are proud to be part of a major public research university focused on providing the best educational experience in Texas and fueling the North Texas region.
Please make your year-end gift in support of our scholarships and exciting initiatives today. Visit www.unt.edu/givenow or contact Keturi Beatty at Keturi.Beatty@unt.edu or 940-891-6860.
Thank you!
Jerry R. Thomas, Ed.D.
