Fall message from Dean Jerry Thomas

Here at the University of North Texas' College of Education, a new academic year is in full swing. We look forward to another extraordinary year and we are very proud of what we have accomplished recently. We have had over 400 articles published by faculty and have received $16 million in external funding and nearly $8 million in gifts over the past three years. Our students continue to achieve national recognition and receive awards for their accomplishments. We graduated 1200 students last year, 48 of which received doctoral degrees.

We’ve been hard at work improving our programs and launching some exciting new initiatives. Last year, we started a brand new international student teacher exchange program with the University of Seville in Spain and we kicked off an accelerated online master's degree in Educational Leadership.

This year is shaping up to be our best yet. Over 30 countries are represented by our student body, and again this fall, our college has the two most popular undergraduate majors on campus: teacher education (interdisciplinary studies) and kinesiology. According to the Texas Education Agency, we are the top university producer of teachers in Texas. Our graduate programs continue to grow stronger each year.

Our success is driven by hardworking students, dedicated faculty and staff, support from local public schools and generous alumni and friends. We are proud to be part of a major public research university focused on providing the best educational experience in Texas and fueling the North Texas region.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and faculty.

Jerry R. Thomas, Ed.D.
