Spring message from Dean Jerry R. Thomas

The College of Education is closing out another great academic year full of accomplishments that I am proud to share with you. Our students and faculty continue to receive national recognition for their hard work, and our alumni are making great strides in their communities. The college is truly engaged on a global scale with our new international student exchange program, and we're making a difference in our own backyard with the President's EDGE program too.

And now for some numbers worth celebrating: At our annual scholarship dinner in November, we awarded over $137,000 in scholarships to 161 students. In 2011-2012, we graduated 701 undergraduates, 354 master's and 62 doctoral students, and we are poised to graduate many more in a few weeks. The college currently has $18 million in total active grants and contracts with $7.5 million awarded just this year.

We are fortunate that so many of our alumni continue to keep in touch with the college. We had a great time hosting a tailgate tent at Homecoming last fall, and we reconnected with many of our doctoral graduates at Dr. Terry Crane's home earlier this spring. Our alumni continue to inspire and encourage us to prepare professionals and scholars who contribute to the advancement of education, health, and human development.
