Instructions
- To apply for your teaching certificate, please visit the State Board for Educator's Certification's website at http://www.sbec.state.tx.us.
- Please select the appropriate route to certification when prompted. For most applicants, the route to certification is UNT-University-Based. Master Reading Teacher or Master Technology Teacher will choose UNT-Master Teacher. IMPACT students will select UNT- University Alternative. If you are not sure which route to choose, please contact the TExES Advising Office.
- When you have completed ALL CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS, UNT will
recommend you for certification. Students do not need to contact UNT
in order to be recommended. We can view your application on the SBEC website. Please note that the recommendation process may take between 4-6 weeks.
- For certificates that require a Teacher Service Record (TSR) - the TSR must accompany all applications where teaching experience is
required. This includes all professional certificates. Career and
Technology applicants must show Career and Technology teaching
experience in the area of the target certificate. If you are using two
years of experience in lieu of student teaching, you must have proof
that the school is accredited by SBEC and that you taught in the area
and level of your target certificate.
- Once UNT has recommended you for your certificate, you will get an email notifcation from SBEC. Please make sure that your email address is up to date on your educator account.
Requirements for Initial Certification
To be recommended for certification, you must have:
- been admitted to Teacher Education
- successfully completed all required academic courses and professional field experience
- maintained the required GPA stated on your plan
- passed the state mandated certification exams
