Important facts about Teacher Education and Administration at UNT

  • The Department of Teacher Education and Administration, the largest department in the university, has strong historical roots at UNT, which was established to provide preparation of teachers.
  • The department has 2,100 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students.
  • TE&A’s graduate programs in Educational Administration receive support from an endowment named for Dr. Mike Moses, former superintendent of Dallas ISD. An endowed chair in his name is held by Professor Richard Fossey.
  • The Superintendent Certification Program receives scholarship funding from Southwest Securities.
  • The programs in Early Childhood Studies receive support from an endowment named for Velma Schmidt. The Velma Schmidt Endowed Chair is currently held by Professor Gaile Cannella.
  • The North Star of Texas Writing Project is associated with UNT and is directed by Teacher Education and Administration faculty.
  • Faculty in Early Childhood Studies provide outreach services to child care providers through the CCAMPIS (Child Care Access Means Parents in School) program.
  • During 2011-2012 department faculty are hosting a Future Bilingual Teachers Academy (supported by the Sid Richardson Foundation).
  • Alonzo Scholarships are provided to students in Teacher Education and Administration’s programs for ESL or bilingual teachers.
  • The Department of Teacher Education and Administration hosted the Sustainable Tourism Environmental Education Conference in Kampala, Uganda, during summer 2011, and offers a Global Learning course in Kenya in the summer of 2012.
  • Faculty engage in international collaborations on four continents.
