Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership faculty provide innovative educational experiences to meet education leaders' specialized and advanced academic and practical needs. Our programs lead to master's and doctoral degrees and certification in school leadership.

The program supports both the public and private educational sectors by providing advancement and application of knowledge while emphasizing research and creative activities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond.

Master of Education in Educational Leadership

The Department of Teacher Education and Administration offers a Master of Education with a major in Educational Leadership. The program is designed for individuals seeking advancement as administrators in schools, school districts, or other educational institutions. It is also designed for classroom teachers who may not be seeking administrative positions but who want to gain more command of the field of educational leadership and to assume other kinds of leadership roles. This program focuses on the knowledge and skills required for campus-level and central office school administration as well as other kinds of leadership positions in education. The program is also designed for individuals who seek the Texas Principal Certificate as well as the degree, and candidates who already hold a master's degree may earn a principal's certificate without earning a second master's in educational leadership.

UNT emphasizes current theory and research to help educational leaders make decisions about effective practices and student achievement. We accentuate field-based, practical applications of learning in educational leadership with online, blended, and face-to-face classes. The program leads to the Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) certification and the Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS) appraiser certification. We also help prepare candidates for the Texas Examination of Education Standards (TExES) for Principal Certification.
