School Mental Health Advocates for Students and Educators (SMHASE)

Dr. Lemberger-Truelove (PI), Dr. Peggy Ceballos (co-PI), and Dr. Dan Li (co-PI) received a $3.8 million grant from the Department of Education. In partnership with three local ISDs, the objective of the 5-year project is to increase the number of highly trained school counselors and school-based mental health counselors in high-need schools. Project partners will recruit, train, and place 36 new school counselors during the funding period, and place approximately 25 clinical mental health students in district-related internship sites. Further, the curriculum will be uniquely tailored to school mental health contexts, especially concerned with linguistically and culturally responsive evidence-based practices.
