Following are the scholarship descriptions and minimum requirements for the scholarships administered by the general College of Education Scholarship Committee:
The Chi Omega Endowed Scholarship
This fund is to provide scholarships for graduate students in the Counseling Program in the College of Education.
Requirements:
-
Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education Graduate Program in Counseling in effect at the time of any award.
-
Maintain full time enrollment at the University,
-
Complete at least twelve hours of graduate credits in Counseling at UNT prior to making application; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then students enorlling full-time int he College of Educaiton Graduate Program at the University will be eligible for consideration;
-
Have at least a 3.5 grade point average on all graduate work;
-
Present evidence of relevant work experience and participation in professional associations or scholarly societies.
Robert & Martha Carter Scholarship in Child Development & Early Childhood Education
This fund is in honor of Robert and Martha Carter, parents of Mary Ann Carter Duke Ebert. Mrs. Ebert is a 1931 NTSU home economics graduate who taught nutrition and family life education in higher education.
Requirements:

Applicants must be students of junior or senior standing who are majoring in Child Development and Early Childhood Education and who have a 3.0 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale in all college work.

Recipients of the scholarships must enroll for and complete at least 15 semester hours during each semester they hold the scholarship, unless they have fewer than 30 semester hours remaining in their degree program, in which case they may divide their remaining hours as equally as possible between the fall and spring semesters.
The Carroll L. and Lewis M. Corson Scholarship
A fund in honor of Carroll Lawes Corson, a 1957 graduate of the College of Education, to provide scholarships for undergraduate students who are teacher certification candidates in the Department of Teacher Education and Administration, or in the Applied Technology, Training & Development Program of the Department of Technology and Cognition in the College of Education at the University.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Teacher Education and Administration (or its successor) or in the Applied Technology Training & Development Program of the Department of Technology and Cognition (or its successor) in effect at the time of any award;

Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
-
Maintain at least a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
-
Enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Teacher Education and Administration (or its successor) or in the Applied Technology Training & Development Program of the Department of Technology and Cognition (or its successor) at the University; in the event no applicant possesses these characteristics, then students enrolling part-time in the Department of Teacher Education and Administration (or its successor) or in the Applied Technology Training & Development Program of the Department of Technology and Cognition (or its successor) at the University will be eligible for consideration.

Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the federal financial aid application or other university documentation.
- Must be a resident of Texas.
Bessie P. Cowan Scholarship Fund for Early Childhood Development
A fund established in honor of Bessie P. Cowan by her daughter Marjorie (Cowan) Fredericksen to provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in child development or early childhood education at the University.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award; Posses a “B” (3.0) average from high school, in the case of an entering freshman.

Provide a brief essay to the Scholarship Committee stating why the scholarship is necessary to supplement family resources; A financial aid form should also be on file with the University.

Enroll as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in child development or early childhood education at the University; in the event no applicant possesses these characteristics, then student enrolling full-time in elementary education at the University will be eligible for consideration. The donor wishes to give preference to undergraduate students whenever possible.

Maintain a minimum “B” average (3.0) during their enrollment at the University.
College of Education Scholarship
A fund to provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education.
Requirements:
-
Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
-
Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Education;
-
Undergraduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and graduate students must maintain a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The Laverne Gregory and William Earl Cooper Memorial Scholarship
A fund in memory of Laverne Gregory and William Earl Cooper, and to provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education who are interested in receiving a teaching cerfiicate.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
-
Enroll as a full-time student in any degree granting program of the College of Education;
-
Indicate an intereste in a teching career and intent to apply for a teaching certificate abnd have completed at least six hours of courses form the College of Education necessary to satisfy requirements to obtain a teaching certificate; and
-
Preference shall be given to students who qualify under the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or its successor) for aid through the University.
Education: The Key to Success for North Texans Scholarship
A fund to provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award.
-
Maintain full time enrollment in the College of Education at the University, unless they have fewer than the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.
-
Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Education seeking certification as a teacher, school counselor, principal, or superintendent.
The Furr Endowed Scholarship
A fund in honor of Dr. Howard J. Smith, Jr., Dr. Charles J. Cross, Dr. Edward C. Bonk, Dr. Robert B. Toulouse, Dr. Sidney Hamilton, Dr. James W. Turner, and other supporting professors both living and deceased, to provide scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Education at the University.

Maintain full time enrollment in the College of Education at the University, unless they have fewer than the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;

Maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
The Gerald and Leslie Gantzer Scholarship
A fund to provide scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a program of Educational Technology at the University. A retired IBM executive, Mr. Gantzer served the University of North Texas from 1994 to 1999 as Associate Director for the Texas Center for Educational Technology and as Director of Development for the College of Education.

The Doris and Forrest Herold Scholarship
A fund in honor of Doris and Forest Herold's fiftieth wedding anniversary and to provide scholarships for graduate or undergraduate students in the College of Education at the University.

The Mary Anne Bussey Johnson Scholarship
A fund in honor of Mary Anne Bussey Johnson, to provide scholarships for a student preparing to become a teacher or for a student enrolled in the Teacher Education program in the College of Education.

Maintain full-time enrollment at the Unviersity, unless the applicant has fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be a full time student in his/her degree program;

Maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;

Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Education, preparing to become a teacher.
The Karnes Scholarship for Education
A fund in honor of the Karnes family and to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the College of Education. This is an academic scholarship based primarily on academic merit and talent.

Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;

Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Education at the University.
The Dean M. Jean Keller College of Education Scholarship
A fund in honor of Dean M. Jean Keller, Dean of the College of Education for eleven years. The fund provides scholarships for students in the College of Education.

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;

Maintain full time enrollment at the University, and
-
Enroll as a full-time student in any degree granting program of the College of Education at the University and have a GPA of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
The Bessie and Joe Killen Education Scholarship
A fund in honor of Bessie and Joe Killen to provide scholarships for full-time students majoring in Education and seeking teacher certification at the University.

The Alvin and Lillian Miller Honorary Scholarship
A fund in honor of Al Miller’s parents to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;

Maintain full time enrollment at the University;
-
Maintain 3.0 GPA.

Enroll as a full-time student in the College of Education; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then students enrolling full-time in any degree program at the University will be eligible for consideration.
Dean Emeritus James R. Miller Scholarship
A fund in honor of Dr. James R. Miller, to provide scholarships for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the College of Education who want to teach math or science. Dr. Miller served the College of Education at the University of North Texas for 15 years; ten years as a faculty member and four years as Dean. Dr. Miller created the Texas Academy for Math and Science.

Demonstrate an interest in teaching math or science.
The Howard W. Smith, Jr. Education Scholarship
A fund to provide a scholarship for a student in the College of Education at the University. Dr. Smith served 36 years as faculty member, Associate Dean and Interim Dean of the College of Education, Associate Vice President and Vice President for Academic Affairs, President and Interim President of the University of North Texas, and Chancellor and Interim of the University of North Texas and The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;

Must maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;

Must be either an undergraduate or graduate student in the pursuit of a course of study at the University leading to a professional career in education. Preference should be given to applicants pursuing a graduate degree in Higher Education.
The Margaret Virginia Stevens Memorial Scholarship
A fund in memory of Margaret Virginia Stevens and in support of students who have declared a major of elementary education and are enrolled in the College of Education.

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;

Must maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
-
Enroll as a full-time student in elementary education at the University; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then students enrolling full-time in the College of Education at the University will be eligible for consideration;
-
Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA;
-
Must plan to pursue a teaching career in elementary education.
The L. Fred Thomas Scholarship
A fund in honor of L. Fred Thomas, and to provide scholarships for College of Education graduate students who are employed by a public school and who demonstrate a commitment to teaching.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;

Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
-
Enroll as a full-time graduate student in any degree-granting program at the College of Education.
The Martha F. Turner Shining Star Scholarship
A fund in honor of Martha E. Turner. The purpose of this endowment is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students with academic success coming from two-year community colleges who will enroll in the teacher education program at the University of North Texas.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award;
-
Maintain full time enrollment at the University, unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program;
-
Enroll as a full-time student seeking elementary, middle, or secondary teacher certification at the University; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then students enrolling full-time in the College of Education at the University will be eligible for consideration;
-
Graduates from the Rising Star Program at Dallas County Community College District and students from Harris County Community Colleges will be given preference in the selection process.
The B. Dwain Vance Scholarship for Science Teachers
A fund in honor of B. Dwain Vance and to provide scholarships for master students in Science Education.
Requirements:

Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Education in effect at the time of any award.

Maintain either part-time or full-time enrollment at the University, unless the applicant has fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in his/her degree program.

Maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
-
Enroll as either a part-time or full-time student in a masters program in science education at the University; in the event no applicant possesses this characteristic, then students enrolling full-time in undergraduate teaching with emphasis on science at the University will be eligible for consideration.
The Elisabeth Warren Scholarship
The use of this gift is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Education living in University of North Texas Housing.

The Bill and Marge Webb Memorial Scholarship
A fund in memory of Jo Ann Webb Miller’s parents and to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education at the University.
Requirements:
