CHE Scholarships

These are scholarships specifically available to Counseling and Higher Education students.

Dr. Richard Rafes Leadership Scholarship in Higher Education

Purpose: To support graduate students who demonstrate leadership or potential for leadership in the field of Higher Education.

Counseling Graduate Student Travel Fund

Purpose: To provide opportunities for graduate students in the Counseling program to travel in support of their graduate research work.

Counseling Alumni Scholarship

Purpose: To support Counseling Program graduate students in good academic standing.

Casey Barrio Minton & Joel Minton Counseling Scholarship

Purpose: To support full-time doctoral or master’s students who intend to pursue a career in the counseling field, who have financial need, and who have demonstrated commitment to leadership in the profession of counseling.

Barry Lumsden Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: A fund in honor of Dr. Barry Lumsden to provide support for students and programs in the Program in Higher Education in the College of Education at the University.

Howard W. Smith, Jr. Education Scholarship

Purpose: A fund in honor of Dr. Howard W. Smith, Jr to provide support for students and programs in the Program in Higher Education in the College of Education at the University.

Higher Education Law Scholarship

Purpose: Establshed in 2009 and funded by the proceeds from the annual UNT Higher Education Law Conference for students in the Program in Higher Education in the College of Education at the University.

Garry Landreth Center for Play Therapy Scholarship

Purpose: A fund established by Dr. Landreth, the founder of the Center for Play Therapy, the largest play therapy training program in the country; Director Emeritus of the Association for Play Therapy; recipient of the Association for Play Therapy Lifetime Achievement Award and Research Award; and internationally known for his work in promoting the development of child-centered play therapy.

Transpersonal Counseling Dissertation Scholarship

Purpose: Established by Dr. Jan Holden, Chair of the Department of Counseling and Higher Education to promote research in the field of transpersonal counseling.

Edward and Agnes Bonk Scholarship

Purpose: A fund in honor of Edward and Agnes Bonk, established in 2008 by Dr. Bonk’s children, Mr. Thomas Bonk and Dr. Suzanne Hedstrom (a counselor educator, like her father) for Counseling Program doctoral students who have career objectives to be a counselor educator.
