1/24-1/25/13

Dr. Cathy Kea is a Professor of Special Education at North Carolina A&T State University. Her research interest and engagement focuses on the intersection between general education, special education, and multicultural education. Her current research focuses on preparing teachers to design and deliver culturally responsive instruction in urban classrooms and ways to infuse diversity throughout course syllabi and teacher preparation programs. The topic of her lecture was Diversity and Teacher Preparation: Culturally Responsive Planning. She provided TELL scholars and others from the UNT community with an opportunity to learn more about how to develop more culturally responsive classrooms.

4/2-4/6/13

Project TELL students attended the 2013 Council for Exceptional Children Conference.  Dr. Combes, Dr. Mehta, and Dr. Lindo were there to help guide the scholars through the largest professional development conference for those working in the special and gifted education fields.  The conference provided professional development as well as opportunities to learn about new and exciting research being done in the field.

4/5/13

While at the 2013 CEC Conference the Project TELL scholars had the opportunity to have dinner with Dr. Fred Spooner.  Dr. Spooner is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Department of Special Education & Child Development.  In the course of his career he has published over 100 journal articles and had over 300 presentations.  He was able to provide valuable insight to our scholars about the career development and the writing process to help them navigate their doctoral programs and beyond.
