Texas HIPPY COVID-19 Planning Grant

The COVID-19 pandemic has create a context in which both delivery of HIPPY home visits, support of families, support of home visitors, and work with the 11 HIPPY sites has changed. The pandemic response provides opportunity to examine what the Texas HIPPY State Office can do to support AmeriCorp members during times of disasters. This grant proposal responds to OneStar's COVID-19 Planning Grant call for proposals. In response to the current disaster and to support sites in response to other potential disasters, this proposal requests support for three planning activities.

Bridging the Writing Transfer Gap in Early Engineering Laboratory Courses

This multi-institutional project aims to serve the national interest by improving college writing instruction and the technical writing abilities of engineering students. Although writing is a critical skill for engineers, employers frequently complain that engineering graduates need better writing skills. Undergraduate engineering curricula typically require various general education writing courses early in the program of study. However, engineering educators often do not have the tools to connect students' learning from early writing courses to their writing in engineering courses.

Professor studies learning environments before and after pandemic shutdown

DENTON (UNT), Texas — University of North Texas College of Education assistant professor Christopher Long is making the best of the situation after his research project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Initially, Long was studying learning environments and student attitudes toward science. However, as schools shut down and students moved to learning from home, his research ground to a halt.
