Welcome to the President’s EDGE! The President’s EDGE opened its doors in the spring of 2011 as a cost-free program to assist UNT staff members to study for and obtain their high school equivalency certificate. Thanks to the support of the UNT community, the EDGE has expanded to offer one-on-one tutoring and small group learning for UNT employees in these areas:

  • High School Equivalency Exam (GED)
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Basic Computer Skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • U.S. Citizenship Test
  • Resumé building
  • Basic Conversational Spanish

¡Bienvenidos al EDGE del Presidente! El EDGE del Presidente abrió sus puertas en la primavera de 2011 como un programa sin costo para ayudar a los miembros del personal de la UNT a estudiar y obtener su certificado de equivalencia de la escuela secundaria. Gracias al apoyo de la comunidad de la UNT, el EDGE se ha ampliado para ofrecer tutorías uno a uno y aprendizaje en grupos pequeños para los empleados de UNT en estas áreas:

Spanish for Staff

Spanish for Staff is taught in several sessions throughout the school year. Each session meets one hour each week for six to eight weeks. It is recommended that learners new to Spanish start with Introductory Spanish.

Inglés como lengua secundaria

Mejorar su vocbulario y pronunciación con instrucción privada o clases en grupos pequeños.

Module 1 – Introductory Spanish/ Saludos

Students are introduced to the Spanish alphabet, vowels, and pronunciation. Basic rules and sentence structure are covered along with greetings, meeting people, simple questions, and good-byes.

Module 2 – Cruzar UNT y la Oficina

Vocabulary and phrases to help you give or get directions to get across UNT by car, by bus or on foot! Telling time, making an appointment, and discussing the weather are some of the topics that are covered in this session.

Module 3 – A Casa

This sesión concentrates on vocabulary related to family and home including household chores, relaxing at home, and talking about your family and pets. At the end of the session, you will be able to describe your home (or your dream home) and chat about your family.

Module 4 – Comer y Comprar

Learn vocabulary and phrases about food, dining, and shopping! Learners will be able to discuss their favorite foods and not so favorites. Read and write recipes, tell how to set a table and name restaurant equipment. Learn useful phrases for buying and selling including asking for prices and sizes.

Instruction will be virtual via MS Teams. A link will be sent on enrollment. Space is limited for instructional purposes.

  • Use our resources to write cover letters, construct resumes or improve your English editing skills
  • Prepare for a high school equivalency exam

Spanish

  • Learn the basics of the Spanish language through our series of classes offered twice a year.
  • Join us once a week on Monday afternoons to practice Spanish in our conversation group.
  • Help with translation or interpretation English/Spanish

Computer Skills

  • Learn the basics of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
  • Create pages on social media
  • Computer resources and help with UNTsystem (email, eLeave, on boarding, etc.)

Citizenship Preparation

  • Personal tutoring to prepare you for the interview
  • Social Studies for a high school equivalency exam

High School Equivalency Exam Preparation

  • Join us for one-on-one tutoring and coaching in Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science
  • Information and tips for taking the GED exam.
