U.S. News and World Report’s Ranking of Doctoral Programs

Image of NewspaperThe University of North Texas’ College of Education graduate programs were rated 109 out of 278 in national rankings in the 2010 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” published online by U.S. News and World Report magazine.  The College ranked 89th among the 100 public universities that were ranked,  17th in total graduate enrollments, 56th in total external grant funded research, and 14th in doctoral acceptance rate.

The Colleges of Education at nine public Texas universities were rated. Of these nine, the COE at UNT was ranked fourth. It was first in total graduate enrollment, second in GRE-verbal scores, third in total external grant funded research, and fourth in the average annual externally funded research expenditures per faculty.

Among the Colleges of Education in the group of seven emerging research universities in Texas, the COE at UNT was ranked second. It ranked first in graduate enrollments, total external grant funded research, GRE-verbal scores, and in doctoral acceptance rate. The COE at UNT was second in the average annual externally funded research expenditures per faculty.

Finally, among the Colleges of Education in the group of 15 universities designated as “peer institutions” by UNT, the COE at UNT ranked eighth. It was first in graduate acceptance rate and it was sixth in graduate enrollment and in external grant funded research.

Dean Jerry Thomas said the improved US News and World Report rankings are due to the hard work and leadership of our faculty and staff in the College as well as excellent graduate students. In the 2005 rankings of Colleges of Education’s graduate programs, the COE at UNT was not among the ranked universities.
