Jeanne Tunks honored by Alpha Chi for distinguished service

TunksDr. Jeanne Tunks, Associate Professor of Teacher Education and Administration at the University of North Texas, is one of seven campus sponsors to receive the Distinguished Service Award from Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. The award, announced at the society's annual national convention on April 6, is a peer recognition that honors influential service. Dr. Tunks has served as chapter sponsor at UNT since 2003, and under her direction the chapter has received multiple Star Chapter Awards, indicating a commitment to foster undergraduate research and academic dialogue on campus, nurture academic professionalism among the students, and maintain healthy and active chapter life.

Dr. Trisha Yarbrough, executive director of Alpha Chi, says, "Dr. Tunks models the academic life for her students with such dedication and delight that I'm not surprised the chapter at UNT is thriving. The level of civic engagement Dr. Tunks facilitates with her students truly models 'making scholarship effective for good.' Alpha Chi succeeds because of volunteer sponsors who invest their lives in students, and Dr. Tunks is a prime example of that commitment." Alpha Chi, inducting 13,000 students annually on 300+ campuses, invites the top ten percent of juniors, seniors, and graduate students to membership.
