Health officials predict increased flu cases this fall, including of H1N1 (swine) flu, so an upswing in the number of flu cases is also anticipated within the UNT community. Right now there is no indication that the effects of any flu strain, including H1N1, will be unusually severe, but we will keep you informed if this changes. It’s important that you know what to do if you think you may have the flu and steps you can take to help avoid getting the flu.
Welcome to the continuation of our newsletter, Results!. The 2008 - 2009 year was a successful one for us, much of it due to friends like you! We received over $2 million in gifts this year with commitments of over $1 million for next. External funding was over $12 million, of which $6 million was new. Gifts are extremely valuable but particularly so because they benefit our students.

DENTON (UNT), Texas – The University of North Texas has been designated as one of the top national universities because of its innovative changes in the 2010 U.S. News & World Report's rankings of colleges and universities released today (Aug. 20) by the magazine.
As interest in gifted education wanes at
graduate-education programs in Texas, advocates want to see more training for
educators who teach gifted students. Supporters feel that without properly
trained teachers, the needs of gifted students often go unnoticed.

field for more than three years, according to University of North Texas

UNT's Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi receives chapter excellence award. This award is the highest given by the International Honor Society for Education.
Well
done Drs. Mary Harris, Jimmy Byrd, and Jeanne Tunks from the Department of
Teacher Education and Administration on securing a grant for $19,000 from the
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The $19,000 is UNT's portion of a
larger grant to Stephen F. Austin University for the Texas Educational Research
Center for Educator Preparation (TERCEP). SFA and UNT along with other
participating institutions (Lamar University, Texas Tech University, and
University of Texas at El Paso) are engaged in a research study about the
factors affecting hard to staff schools.
We are very happy to announce the awarding of a $148,000 grant to Drs. Marc Cutright, Bonita Jacobs, Amy Fann, and Beverly Bower all of the Higher Education Program in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education.
Gary Nye has been named as the winner of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration Edgar L. Morphet Dissertation Award. This award recognized the significant scholarship of his dissertation: Principal Leadership Beliefs: Are Personal and Environmental Influences Related to Self Efficacy? Gary received the Ed.D.
