Programs

Kinesiology: a scientific understanding of human movement with academic emphasis on the disciplinary, professional and activity dimensions of biological and behavioral components of movement, exercise and sport. The subset of disciplines contributing to kinesiology includes biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness and health, motor development learning/control, sport psychology/sociology, sport management, and sport pedagogy.

 

Recreation & Leisure Studies: The program's primary goals are the professional preparation of undergraduate and graduate students, research into the phenomena of leisure, development of new techniques for professional practice, community and professional service, continuing education, scholarly publications and technical assistance.

 

Health Promotion: Health promotion is the science of helping people alter their lifestyles to achieve optimal health and wellness, empowering them to live life to the fullest physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. It includes environmental and social support for healthy behaviors in addition to building awareness, knowledge, skills, and interpersonal support for personal behavior change. This program offers courses for students seeking knowledge about their health along with methods by which to live a healthy lifestyle. In addition, courses are offered for students majoring in health promotion who have career goals in school or community health.
