MEMBERSHIP

 

Membership in Alpha Iota Chapter is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty members and other professional educators.

Undergraduate: When seeking membership as an undergraduate student, a candidate must: have no less than first-term sophomore standing (the equivalent of at least 30 semester hours earned by the end of the term prior to the time of initiation) with an overall grade point average of at least 3.2 out of 4.0 or have junior standing, be admitted to Teacher Education Program, with an overall grade point average of at least 3.2 out of 4.0 or, have senior standing with twelve hours of education courses completed, in progress, or programmed, have an overall grade point average of at least 3.2 out of 4.0, and exemplify worthy educational ideals, express an intention to continue in the field of education, and exhibit evidence of leadership abilities.

Graduate: When seeking membership as a graduate student, a candidate must: have completed six or more semester hours of graduate work at UNT applicable to the degree program in which the student is enrolled, have completed twelve hours of graduate courses in education, have an overall grade point average of at least 3.56 out of 4.0, exemplify worthy educational ideals, express an intention to continue in the field of education,  exhibit evidence of leadership abilities. 

Faculty: When seeking membership as a faculty member, a candidate must: be a faculty member of the University of North Texas and give evidence of support for the Chapter and its programs. The number of faculty initiated at any one initiation ceremony shall not exceed ten percent of the total number of initiates. 

Professional Educators: Persons employed as teachers or administrators in local schools may be invited to membership upon the recommendation of the Membership Committee and the approval of the Executive Committee.

The cost of initiation, which includes local and national dues for the first year, a membership pin, certificate and society creed is $65.00.
