UNT Graduate Academic Certificate in Gifted Education 

Students who do not want a masters degree, but just the training in gifted education, both individuals within Texas and those from other states or countries, should apply to the UNT Graduate school as Graduate Academic Certificate in Gifted Education (GACT-GATE) candidates.

This route to GT training does not require GRE scores for admission. All of the courses can be used later in a masters program. The restrictions for use of the courses are: a 6-year time window for use, reapplication to the Graduate School for masters or doctoral status, and admission to a related

masters program.
The Graduate Academic Certificate in Gifted Education (GACT-GATE) appears on completer's UNT transcript  and they receive a elegant signed certificate from UNT attesting to their training.

  1. Apply to the Graduate School as a student interested in the Graduate Academic Certificate in Gifted Education (GACT-GATE).
  2. Pass these courses (usually in this order):
    1. EDSP 5105
    2. EDSP 5110
    3. EDSP 5120
    4. EDSP 5130
  3. Once you have passed all four courses complete the Graduate Academic Certificate Verification of Completion form. Download the form, fill it out and return it to UNT at this address:

  5. Once we receive this form, we  will review it,  sign it, and forward it to the UNT Graduate School.
  6. The Graduate School will verify the information and process the Certificate.
  7.  The frameable Certificate is mailed to you at the address you put on the Verification Form.

More Information:

The 12 hours required for this certificate will also be applicable to the Master’s Degree in Gifted Education. Students choosing to pursue a Master's Degree must meet the Special Education Program Master's Degree Admissions requirements.
