The gifted and talented courses prepare you for one or more certificates.

1) TExES #162 Gifted and Talented Education. (Texas state teacher supplemental certification) After completing these courses a student may sit for the TExES examination #162 Gifted and Talented Education issued by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC). The Gifted and Talented Education Certificate is not an initial teacher certification in Texas. It is a supplemental teaching certificate, and as such is only available to individuals who already hold a valid Texas teaching license. Our certificate training requires four courses (EDSP 5105, 5110, 5120, and 5130). Authorization to take the TExES examination #162 are obtained from the UNT TExES Advising Office after completing the four courses .

2) Gradaute Academic Certificate in Gifted Education (GACT-GATE) is a University of North Texas academic certificate which appears on students transcripts when completed. Completion of the four course sequence(EDSP 5105, 5110, 5120, and 5130) earns a University of North Texas Academic Certificate in Gifted Education.  to receive the GACT-GATE students must submit the appropriate form (see below) to the GT office after successfully completing the 4 courses.
