Feasibility and initial efficacy of a wheelchair exercise-training intervention for persons with multiple sclerosis

Dr. Stephanie Silveira received a $200,000 R03 grant from the National Institute of Health- Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The aim of the study is to test the feasibility and efficacy of 16-week wheelchair exercise training program for persons with multiple sclerosis that Dr. Silveira created in collaboration with Dr. Robert Motl at University of Illinois Chicago and Dr. Katherine Froehlich-Grobe at Craig Hospital. The research team aims to recruit 24 participants in the DFW area to complete the individually tailored, remotely supported exercise training program or a wellness control condition. Collectively, this study provides an opportunity to meet the needs of persons with severe multiple sclerosis that have been absent from the majority of previous research and expand resources for persons with multiple sclerosis in the DFW area.
