Transition Specialist Certificate

The Transition Specialist Certificate is designed for individuals who hold at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and who desire to provide special education transition services to students in middle and/or high school settings.

Admission Requirements for Certificate:

  1. Hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a valid teaching certificate at the secondary level.
  2. Meet the requirements for admission to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies.
  3. Complete and file an application with the Special Education Office indicating your intention to work toward this certificate.
  4. Successfully complete at least one full year as a teacher of students with disabilities at the middle and/or high school levels.

Course Requirements for Certificate (applicant must meet course prerequisites, if any) :

  • EDSP 5620 Educational Programming for Children with E/BD
  • EDSP 5660 Transition of Youth with E/BD: Issues and Practices
  • EDSP 5665 Advanced Transition Planning for Students with E/BD
  • EDSP 5684 Seminar on Traumatic Brain Injury - I

More Information:

The 12 hours required for this certificate will also be applicable to the Master’s Degree in Special Education with a specialization in emotional/behavioral disorders and/or transition. Students choosing to pursue a Master's Degree must meet the Special Education Program Master's Degree Admissions requirements.
