Invitation

An Invitation to Join the IMPACT Program

If you hold a Bachelor's Degree and are interested in becoming a special educator, we invite you to explore the possibility of becoming a member of our IMPACT program. IMPACT is a one-to-two-year alternative path to special education certification. IMPACT is designed to meet the demands of academic rigor and ongoing mentor support for you in a field that is rapidly changing.

We are specifically looking for individuals who view teaching special education as a calling. These individuals must learn how to set high expectations for their students. They must also learn how to individualize curriculum and enhance instruction based on learner characteristics. Additionally, these individuals must develop skills that will enable them to collaborate with parents and other professionals so as to enhance the lives of children and youth with disabilities across their life span.

The goal of IMPACT faculty is to equip you with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to have a rewarding career in the special education field. We think we can do that within an eight-course sequence that you may also count toward a Master's Degree in Special Education if so desired. Importantly, you will have the support of qualified mentors and university faculty coaching and supervision during the semesters you are teaching on the job.

Candidates who are accepted into our program are eligible to receive a Probationary Teaching Certificate and be employed as a special education teacher during the fall and spring semesters they are completing coursework. Information on this website is provided so you can learn more about our program. We hope you meet the criteria to join the rank of qualified professionals who dedicate their lives to serving students from special populations.
