IMPACT

Welcome to the IMPACT Program Home Page

IMPACT is an Instructional Model to Prepare Adept Certified Teachers in Special Education. The goal of IMPACT is to equip qualified individuals with the confidence, knowledge and skills to have a rewarding career in the special education field.

The IMPACT Program was approved by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) on January 4, 2002 and meets the criteria for an acceptable alternative route to certification program as delineated in the No Child Left Behind legislation. Thus, the IMPACT Program is one that:

  1. Provides high-quality professional development that is sustained, intensive, and classroom focused in order to have a positive and lasting impact on classroom instruction while teaching;
  2. Provides intensive supervision that consists of structured guidance and regular ongoing support for teachers and a teacher mentoring program;
  3. Allows the candidate to assume the functions as a teacher only for a specified period of time not to exceed two years; and
  4. Requires the teacher candidate to demonstrate satisfactory progress toward full certification as prescribed by the State of Texas.
