Note: Due to budgetary and resource considerations, effective immediately, we are not admitting students to the School Psychology Concentration

 

The School Psychology degree program at EPSY consists of two components, together requiring 60 credit hours of coursework and professional practice in a 3-year program:

Master of Science in Educational Psychology: Concentration in School Psychology (36 credit hours), followed by

Graduate Academic Certificate in School Psychology (24 hours).

Combination of the two components provides the necessary coursework and professional experiences to meet certification requirements (LSSP) in Texas. The minimum requirement for credentialing as a school psychologist in Texas consists of the following: (a) a minimum of three years of full-time study at the graduate level, or the equivalent if part-time; (b) at least 60 graduate semester hours, with at least 54 hours plus internship experience; and (c) institutional documentation of specialist-level school psychology program completion provided to graduates.The two components, summarized below, meet these requirements. The Graduate Certificate starts in the Spring semester of the second year, after all the requirements for the MS Concentration are met.

Advanced Certificate in School Psychology

This advanced certificate is limited to students who have completed all the requirements of UNT's Masters of Science in Educational Psychology: School Psychology Concentration. It provides the intensive supervised practice needed for certification as LLSP. It also includes the requirements for the National Association of School Psychologists, although it is not currently certified by NASP. It consists of 24 credit hours of coursework, mentored practica, and a one-year internship experience in the field.

Certification Requirements (24 hours)

1. Supervised Practicum in School Psychology (6 Credits)

Counseling/Therapy: One of the following, or a graduate counseling/psychotherapy course, with advisor’s approval:
