Educational Diagnostician Certification Program

1. Individuals seeking the Professional Certification in the area of Educational Diagnostician must have the following:

  • (a) a valid Texas teaching certificate
  • (b) hold the minimum of a generic special education teaching endorsement earned through coursework or pass the departmental qualifying exam in special education with an   80 percent score or better.
  • (d) have three years appropriate teaching experience in special education by completion of the program. Appropriate experience is determined through a review of work records by the faculty in special education.

2. Individuals seeking the Professional Certification in the area of Educational Diagnostician must possess a Master's Degree and have satisfactorily met all the requirements of the UNT Educational Diagnostician program.

3. INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE SEEKING RECOMMENDATION FOR A PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION IN EDUCATIONAL DIAGNOSTICIAN BY UNT, MUST COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 12 CREDIT HOURS AT UNT. THIS IS A UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENT.

4. During your first semester of enrollment, you must file a deficiency plan with the Student Advising Office, Matthews Hall, Room 105. In preparation for obtaining the deficiency plan, the student must meet with a faculty advisor who will complete an Educational Diagnostician Deficiency Plan Worksheet. This worksheet along with a copies of your teaching certificate, teaching service record, and official transcripts for all college/university credit completed will be required by the Student Advising Office. HAVING A DEFICIENCY PLAN ON FILE DOES NOT CONSTITUTE YOUR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE EDUCATIONAL DIAGNOSTICIAN PROGRAM.

5. Once the official deficiency plan is completed by the Student Advising Office, the student must provide a copy to the Special Education Office for his/her official student file.
