History

Texas Outreach to Parents of Newborns Project

The initial project, Travis County Outreach to Parents of Newborns Initiative, was so successful that funding was sought to replicate this project in other areas of Texas. The Hogg Foundation subsequently funded the Statewide Capacity Building for Meeting Needs of Parents of Newborns, to replicate the Travis County program. The Travis County program expanded and provided a template and a pilot program for the participating sites of the Statewide Capacity Building for Meeting Needs of Parents of Newborns, which was known as the Texas Outreach to Parents of Newborns Project.  An additional funder, the Tapestry Foundation, provided funding for the Uvalde site and additional materials for the other sites. A second year of funding with the Hogg and Tapestry Foundations provided for continuation of replication services to the original sites plus initial funding for the additional sites of Lubbock, Beaumont, Abilene, El Paso and Midland. The sites were selected based on the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services highest child abuse rates in the state.
