The Center For Parent Education, a division of the College of Education of the University of North Texas, was founded by Dr. Arminta Jacobson in 1992. The purpose of the center is to respond to the needs of families through research, advocacy, resources and leadership for professionals interested in meeting the needs of parents and families. The Center for Parent Education assists in the establishment of partnerships with parents, schools, and agencies through research and seminars.

Center History


Dr. Arminta Jacobson founded the Center for Parent Education, a division of the College of Education of the University of North Texas, in 1992. The Center assists in the establishment of partnerships with parents, schools, and agencies through research and seminars. The Center also works with a variety of local, state, and national organizations to impact parenting in Texas and across the nation.

Annual Conference on Parent Education – Hundreds of professionals from across the country attend the Annual Conference on Parent Education, sponsored by the Center for Parent Education. Keynote speakers and pre- and post conference workshop facilitators are recruited from leading research universities. Workshops, research, and interest sessions at the conference are conducted by professionals from across the United States.

The Summer Institute: Parent Education & Training – The annual Summer Institute provides professionals with an opportunity to improve their training skills. The institute focuses on understanding family and child development, facilitation skills, theory, professionalism, marketing, diversity, and development and assessment of programs.
