Non-Degree and Certification Programs

The Department of Counseling and Higher Education offers five non-degree and certification programs.

Texas Professional Counselor Licensure Deficiency

This program is for individuals who already hold a master's degree in counseling but who do not yet meet educational requirements for Licensure as a Professional Counselor in Texas.

Texas School Counselor Certification Deficiency

This program is for individuals who already hold a master's degree in counseling but who do not yet meet educational requirements for Certification as a School Counselor in Texas.

Graduate Academic Certificate in Teaching and Adult Learning

The Higher Education program offers a certificate in planning and conducting instruction of and learning experiences for adult learners for individuals currently in positions in adult education or those seeking such positions.

Community College Leadership Certification

The Higher Education program offers a certificate that will add depth and breadth to their knowledge of community colleges for individuals who already hold a master's degree and are currently employed as a community college professional.

Counseling Continuing Education

For individuals who are graduates of CACREP-accredited programs, licensed as mental health providers (e.g., counselor, psychologist, social worker), or certified as school counselors, the Counseling Program allows non-degree enrollment in appropriate graduate courses on a case-by-case basis.
