Teaching Fields

A "highly qualified" teacher possess a minimum of 24 semester credit hours in a content field that is associated with a Texas teaching field (12 must be upper level courses). Candidates who meet the requirements for the Online Teacher Certification Program may select one of the teaching fields listed below.

The State Board for Educator Certification has scheduled certain certificates to expire in the near future. The last day to recommend for these certificates is indicated by the fields. This means that the student must complete all coursework, state certification exams and apply for a teaching license approximately one week prior to the expiration date in order to be recommended for the expiring certificates.
